Leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria on Saturday, 30th September, and 1st October, threw its weight behind the Banana Island Cultural Festival 2017 which brought together people of different countries across the world.
The 2-day festival, which is held annually is designed to bring the residents of Banana Island together in celebration of their cultural diversity by showcasing their traditional food, drinks, attire, dance, music and exhibition of historical artefacts. The smartphone network, Airtel Nigeria, also showcased it offerings at the event.
The event which coincides with the 57th Independence Day of Nigeria, was used by the telco to also celebrate with participants in a raffle draw, giving out Mifi, router and a smartphone.
Speaking after the raffle draw, Mr. Ahmad Mokhles, Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria, said the company will always back the promotion of culture and heritage as it is key to our existence as human.
He added that the company will continue to support the Banana Island Cultural Festival to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the island. Since the inception of the cultural festival in 2014, residents’ participation has remained quite impressive despite their busy schedule.
According to the organisers, the community’s cooperation has been a major source of inspiration and encouragement to the Executives of BIPORAL in organising the festival for the past four years. The fun-filled event had different dance troupes that entertained the crowd along with different cultural presentations from countries.
Countries that participated in the festival this year included: Nigeria, USA, South Africa, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Canada, Cameroon, Poland, Netherland, Rwanda, Cote D’ivoire, Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, Jamaica, France, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone.
